Whether you simply want your front yard to look festive for your own family’s enjoyment, or if you’re braving the winter seller’s market and want your home to stand out from the rest, this is the perfect time of year to up the ante and deck the halls…or front porch. Here are six cute & creative Christmas decorations to liven up you home’s porch this holiday season.
Christmas is in the Air!
Use your clay pots from the spring and summer all year by filling them with those sensationally scented pinecones you always walk by at your local grocery store. Purchase a few of the cinnamon-scented goodies and fill your pots to the brim, adding some faux pine or poinsettias for a pop of color. Then set them outside of your front door and enjoy!
Purchase a new holiday- or winter-themed mat for your front door. You can go for Christmas kitsch or holiday elegance, but if you’re wanting to attract buyers, aim for something classic and simple. A sweet Christmas quote or a minimal reindeer print will do the trick just fine. You can find reasonably-priced Christmas-themed mats in almost any retail store during the holidays.
Pops of Props.
Do you have a classic wooden sled laying around? No? No problem! Most craft and retail stores have great seasonal props and décor that can be used both indoors and outdoors. Peruse the aisles and find a few things you can set up directly outside your front door to catch the eyes of passersby.
Light the Way.
Lanterns and luminaries are all the rage these days, so you can find them at great prices in various stores. They can also be used year-round for both functional and decorative purposes, so they’re a great investment. Insert real or battery-operated candles, and place them on your porch, walkway, or in your windows at night to add a soft and subtle coziness to your home. And it should go without saying, but don’t forget the string lights! Whether colored or white, single-strand or covering every inch, these are a Christmas staple.
Nothing could be simpler and more classic than hanging a festive wreath on your front door. You can also add plenty of green by putting a decorative garland around your doorway, or even putting a small Christmas tree on your front porch, complete with ornaments and all for a festive fir display. (And don’t forget the traditional elegance of potted poinsettias, either!)
Put Gifts Outside.
Okay, not your actual gifts…but the cardboard boxes your online purchases arrived in will work great! Wrap them up as if there were a surprise inside and set them out on your front steps for a festive display. You may want to put some rocks inside to weigh them down to keep them from blowing away, but this is still a fun and inexpensive way to liven up your curb appeal!
